Top 10 OSHA Violations of 2024

The preliminary list of 10 Top OSHA violations of 2024 includes fewer citations than 2023 in every category. This year’s top 10 list accounts for 26,207 violations, compared to 28,912 in 2023. That’s a 10 percent drop from last year.

Although the top 10 standards are the same as last year, several rankings changed. Fall protection, HazCom and Ladders remained the top 3 most common citations. Four of the top 10 standards are related to falls. OSHA announced the new list for fiscal year 2024 at the NSC Safety Congress & Expo in Orlando.

“While incredible advancements are made in safety each year, we continue to see many of the same types of violations appear on OSHA’s Top 10 list,” said Lorraine Martin, NSC president and CEO. “As a safety community, it’s critical we come together to acknowledge these persistent trends and identify solutions to better protect our workforces.”

The 10 most-cited safety standards for fiscal year 2024 are:

  1. Fall Protection – General Requirements (1926.501): 6,307 violations (-964 vs. 2023)
  2. Hazard Communication (1910.1200): 2,888 (-325 vs. 2023)
  3. Ladders (1926.1053): 2,573 (-430 vs. 2023)
  4. Respiratory Protection (1910.134): 2,470 (-11 vs. 2023)
  5. Lockout/Tagout (1910.147): 2,443 (-111 vs. 2023)
  6. Powered Industrial Trucks (1910.178): 2,248 (-306 vs. 2023)
  7. Fall Protection – Training Requirements (1926.503): 2,050 (-62 vs. 2023)
  8. Scaffolding (1926.451): 1,873 (-986 vs. 2023)
  9. Eye and Face Protection (1926.102): 1,814 (-260 vs. 2023)
  10. Machine Guarding (1910.212): 1,541 (-103)

  7. Respiratory Protection, general industry: 2,481 violations
  8. Fall Protection – Training Requirements: 2,112 violations
  9. Eye and Face Protection: 2,074 violations
  10. Machinery and Machine Guard, general requirements: 1,644 violations
