Orange DOT Explosive 1.1 Placard

Explosives are defined as chemicals that cause a sudden, almost instantaneous release of pressure, gas and heat when subjected to sudden shock, pressure or high temperature. If your workplace includes explosives or explosive chemicals, explosive signs aren't just a good idea. They're the law.

Our signs for explosives are printed on aluminum, plastic or magnetic material, or as adhesive labels so you can select a material and size to meet your needs. We also have DOD Fire Division signs and flip placards. Explosive warning signs help prevent accidents and ensure compliance with safety regulations in potentially dangerous environments.

Explosives Safety Signs in the Workplace

Under the Occupational Safety and Health law, employers have a responsibility to provide a safe workplace. That involves complying with OSHA standards, rules and regulations and using color codes, posters, labels or signs to warn employees of potential hazards. So if you have explosives in your workplace, you need signs for explosive hazards.

Part of OSHA compliance is developing and implementing a written hazard communication program, and then training employees on hazard exposures and proper precautions. The OSHA Hazcom standard aligns with GHS standards, which use the Exploding Bomb symbol for explosives, self-reactives and organic peroxides.

Rules for Explosives Transportation

OSHA also sets requirements for transporting explosives. OSHA 1910.109(d)(2)(ii)(a) identifies exterior markings or placards required on applicable vehicles. These DOT placards must be displayed at the front, rear, and on each side of the motor vehicle or trailer, or other cargo carrying body while it contains explosives or other dangerous articles.

Select the correct DOT placard based on the class of material and amount being shipped:
- Explosives A Placard (Red letters on white background): Any quantity of Class A or a combination of Class A and Class B explosives
- Explosives B Placard (Red letters on white background): Any quantity of Class B explosives
- Oxidizers Placard (Yellow letters on black background): 1,000 lbs. or more gross weight of oxidizing materials (blasting agents, ammonium nitrate, etc.
