Here are some OSHA tips to prevent falls in construction:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-to-prevent-falls-from-roofs\">To prevent falls from roofs:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wear a harness and always stay connected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure your harness fits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use guardrails or lifelines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inspect all fall protection equipment before use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guard or cover all holes, openings, and skylights<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-to-prevent-falls-from-ladders\">To prevent falls from ladders:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose the right ladder for the job<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain three points of contact<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Secure the ladder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always face the ladder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-to-prevent-falls-from-scaffolds\">To prevent falls from scaffolds:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use fully planked scaffolds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure proper access to scaffold<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plumb and level<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete ALL guardrails<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure stable footing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inspect before use (by competent person)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The costs of construction falls<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Roofers and carpenters face fall hazards on a daily basis. It&#8217;s no wonder falls from heights create significant injuries and costs. An OSHA study of incidents from 2005-2007 showed the following costs. You can imagine how much they&#8217;ve increased since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For roofers:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Falls from elevations: $106,000 each<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Falls from ladders or scaffolds: $68,000 each<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For carpenters:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Falls from elevations: $97,000 each<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Falls from ladders or scaffolds: $62,000 each<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Protecting construction workers from falls<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a number of ways to protect construction workers from falls, including appropriate training, guardrail systems, safety nets and personal fall protection systems. But adopting and enforcing safe work practices is essential.
